Sparkle Angel

I make an angel every year for Audrey.  I've about run through all the DeAngelis angels.  (All the ones I like, anyway.)  I knew I was going to have to design something.  In the meantime, I ordered some new felt from National Nonwovens and they had some new glitter felt.  It's kind of interesting.  The dots are random sizes and sort of scattered irregularly.  I had red, white, and green and I thought it would be perfect for a Christmas angel.  I headed over to Etsy and bought a piece of clipart.  Etsy is my go-to place for clipart because I can't draw.  I thought this was perfect for what I wanted:

I think the sparkles on her dress made me think of the glitter on my felt.  I made a change to the hair for engineering purposes.   I think she turned out great!

DISCLAIMERS:

In case anyone happens by and thinks I've stolen someone else's work or thinks I'm profiting from it:

  • purchased the clip-art.  I did not do a "right click/save as."
  • I am not selling a pattern made from this clip-art.  I'm not even giving away a pattern made from this clip-art.
  • I am not selling ornaments made from this clip-art.

Gabe

I suppose this pattern is supposed to be a boy since it's named Gabe.  I just threw some flowers on the dress and turned it into a girl.  That works -- right?  I have no idea why I took the photo before I put the halo on.  I always use a silver pipe cleaner for the halo.  This is part of the angel collection for Audrey, my friend's daughter.  She gets a new angel every year.

This one was quick and easy and just adding a few details at the bottom made a huge difference.

Star Bright

This is Audrey's 9th angel ornament.  I have to keep a photo folder going just for hers so I can remember what I've already made.  This is Carolyn DeAngelis' Star Bright pattern.  If I had to do it over again, I'd enlarge it just a little as it's sort of on the small side.  Still cute, though!

Angela

It's time for another angel ornament for Audrey:  her 8th, in fact.  I can remember I was in kind of a blah mood the day I started her ornament.  None of the patterns were really appealing to me too much.  I just sort of randomly picked one and just started cutting.  Ouida and I have talked more than once about how some patterns look really good on paper and then aren't quite as exciting when they're done.  Other patterns look totally stupid on paper and you cringe when someone requests them and then they turn out great.  That was the case with Angela.  The pattern just didn't do anything for me at all, but I love the finished product.  Maybe it's the color choice.  Or the fact that I made the wings a little bigger.  Who knows?!  Whatever the case, I think Audrey will love her!

Heaven Sent

Time for Audrey's angel!  I've always liked this pattern.  I wanted to wait until she was old enough to understand that the angel is praying.  This one is pretty straightforward -- no special instructions or tricks.  I used my metallic silver fabric for the star to give her a little pizzazz.  I know Audrey will love her!

Angelica

I was looking through my angel patterns, trying to decide which one to make Audrey this year.  It was super snowy that day, so I couldn't resist Angelica, who looked like she was making a snow angel.

I added some stitching along the hem of her dress so she wouldn't be so blah.  I also used a sequin and bead in place of a punched circle on the bodice of the dress to give her a little bling.  Audrey looks forward to getting her angel every year and she always writes me a sweet note.

Love that!!

Angelic Duet

Here's my latest.  I've been making angels for my friend's daughter each year since she was born.  Last year, she got a new baby sister.  I already had her ornament made and didn't have this pattern yet.  (Janet shared it with me earlier this year.)  As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to make it for her!  I didn't like the big angel's hair on the pattern.  It was super short, like the little angel's hair.  I searched through my patterns and "borrowed" some hair from somewhere else.

I added some decorative stitching to the bottoms of the dresses because I thought they were a little plain and boring otherwise.  I did the faces according to the pattern, but might change them if I make this one again.  Hope you like them!

New Ornament Friends

I am so very excited that not one, but FOUR, Carolyn DeAngelis fans have found this blog and contacted me in the past month!  I wonder what the explanation for THAT happy coincidence is???  Whatever the reason, I'm so excited that our little community has expanded . . . okay, TRIPLED!

Kathy, a new friend who is, ironically, located not all that far from me has some CDA ornaments that her aunt made for her family when she was young.  She would like to start making them herself, so she did a little searching and found the blog.  She was gracious enough to share photos of her aunt's ornaments and I thank her for allowing me to share them here so we can all enjoy them!

Angel Andy

Obviously, this is NOT Angel Andy. This ornament is for my friend Rachel's daughter, Audrey. I've been doing her an angel each year. I thought this one was cute on the sled, so I added a ponytail to make it a girl. I left off the holly leaves and berries from the sled because I thought they were overkill. I added a pipe cleaner candy cane instead. I think she turned out really cute!

Star

This is my third ornament for my friend Rachel's daughter, Audrey. Rachel is currently expecting her 2nd child on October 21st, so I'll be rapidly stitching another ornament for their tree this year as soon as I know whether the baby is a boy or a girl. This is not my favorite of the three angels I've made for Audrey, but amongst a collection, little Star will be just fine.

Herald Angel

It's been a long time since I posted, but I've been busy with ornaments! The first one I did in 2010 was the Herald Angel.

This will be the 2nd ornament for my friend's daughter, Audrey. This past Christmas, I gave her the Sweet Dreams angel sleeping on the cloud. I stitched down all the little flowers. I added a pipe cleaner halo and also used a pipe clean for the star wand. The pattern didn't show a foot and I thought that looked weird, so I took one from another pattern and used it here.

Sweet Dreams

Here's my first "Audrey Angel." Audrey is my friend Rachel's little girl. I'm going to make her a different angel each year for Christmas. Isn't this one sweet? She was really quick -- I made her start-to-finish last night while I was watching TV. Here's what I did:

  • I used plain white felt for the clouds and glitter felt for the wings.

  • I added a real button to the pajama flap.

  • I added a silver pipe cleaner halo because I thought it was hard to tell she was an angel, and not just a baby napping on a cloud.

  • I made her little hand three-dimensional by stitching almost all the way around and then putting in some stuffing.

Nighty-Night!
