Violet and Joey

I wanted to do ornaments of both our pets, so I scrounged around on the internet looking at various free images and just sort of cobbled something together.

Violet is our rescue pug who just generally sits around the house with her tongue hanging out, looking extra smart.

Joey is a stray that our kids pulled out of a local creek.  We're suckers.  But he's a pretty good cat.

Last fall, we quite literally inherited another dog from a relative who passed away, so look for a new dog ornament some time this year.  And if Joey has his way, we'll be adding another cat.  He has a friend who comes around regularly to play.  We felt sorry for him, so we put out some food.  Then Mariah named him Whoopie.  It's only a matter of time.  But don't tell Scott I said that!

Grumpy Cat

My oldest nephew is a big fan of Grumpy Cat.  For those of you unfamiliar with him, Grumpy Cat is a real pet with a perpetual frown who frequently appears in online memes:

Alex is a fan of cats in general, but Grumpy Cat really appeals to him and he's pretty stoked that there's going to be a full-length feature filmed with him.  I decided that this needed to be the subject of Alex's 2013 ornament.

You've heard me say before that I CANNOT draw.  I really can't!  I had a picture of a felt cat ornament that I snagged somewhere online.  (I have no idea where.)  I'm not super fond of any of the Carolyn DeAngelis cat patterns and since this one was pretty basic, I saved it for future inspiration.  Since it's pretty generic and since I changed the colors and, of course, the face, I hope I won't get my butt sued off if the original owner of the photo happens to see this.  (And if you are the original owner of the original cat ornament photo and you're thinking about suing me, please know that I do NOT -- under any circumstances -- ever sell my ornaments or profit off them in any way.)

At any rate, I came up with a pattern and tracked down some cat whiskers from my local craft store.  They really make him look fabulous.  So . . . . here he is . . . Grumpy Cat immortalized in felt!

New Ornament Friends

I am so very excited that not one, but FOUR, Carolyn DeAngelis fans have found this blog and contacted me in the past month!  I wonder what the explanation for THAT happy coincidence is???  Whatever the reason, I'm so excited that our little community has expanded . . . okay, TRIPLED!

Kathy, a new friend who is, ironically, located not all that far from me has some CDA ornaments that her aunt made for her family when she was young.  She would like to start making them herself, so she did a little searching and found the blog.  She was gracious enough to share photos of her aunt's ornaments and I thank her for allowing me to share them here so we can all enjoy them!
